Weekly Update From Senator Greg Evers
August 27, 2011
I want to take this opportunity to share my sentiments and gratitude to our men and women who risk their lives every day to protect our freedom and safety. My prayers and condolences are with the family of Lance Cpl. Travis Nelson, who was killed during a firefight in Afghanistan this past week. He was laid to rest today.
Also, Florida’s own Jeremy Cassady, a Deputy with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, was shot in the line of duty some time ago. He had been on a waiting list for a kidney and pancreas as a result of his injuries and underwent surgery on Wednesday. I pray for his prompt recovery.
Please take a moment today to keep the brave members of our armed forces in your thoughts and prayers. Let's also keep our friends in the Northeast in our thoughts and prayers as Hurricane Irene heads their way. We all know what hurricanes and natural disasters can do to our homes, families and ways of life. May God be with them, and let this serve as a reminder to be prepared this hurricane season.
Among the happenings around the district this week was the Holmes County Farm Bureau’s 65th annual meeting. I was happy to join President Raymond Thomas, and fellow officers, at the meeting in acknowledgement of the significant contributions agriculture makes to our communities and state.
As always, do not hesitate to email me at greg@gregevers.com or call my district office at (850) 983-5550 with any questions or concerns.
Have a safe and restful weekend.
Warmly,
Greg
