Evers, Broxson Tackle Septic Law
Gulf Breeze News - August 31, 2011
Sen. Greg Evers of Baker has filed Senate Bill 114 and Rep. Doug Broxson of Gulf Breeze has co-sponsored House Bill 79 to repeal the septic tank inspection law passed in 2010 that requires every septic tank in the state to be inspected every five years.
SB 114 would eliminate a provision that requires the Department of Health to create and administer statewide septic tank evaluation programs every five years, thereby lessening the unnecessary and expensive burden placed on residents, particularly in rural areas of the state, who would be held responsible for financing the inspections and repairs.
““It is clear that there can be no compromise until we have repealed SB 550 entirely,” Evers said.
Broxson believes the regulation is excessive and overreaching.
“This is an issue that the counties need to resolve locally. The state doesn’t need to dictate a solution.” Broxson said.
