Alatex Building Renovation Brings New Jobs to Panhandle

Crestview, Fla. – Senator Greg Evers (R-Baker) today joined Florida A&M University President Dr. James H. Ammons, Crestview Mayor David Cadle and City Council President Charles Baugh, among others, at a community meet and greet hosted by Peter Brown Construction Inc. and FAMU. At the meet and greet, subcontractors with the Pharmacy School program in Crestview were actively seeking skilled workers for the upcoming renovation of the Alatex building of the FAMU Crestview Educational Center.

“I can’t think of one person who has not been affected by our down economy, no matter what their economic standing is,” said Senator Evers. “Florida needs jobs, our Northwest Florida communities need jobs, and here we are seeing an opportunity for skilled and deserving folks to become employed once again.”

Senator Evers participated in the meet and greet, which was conducted for the purpose of allowing local businesses and elected officials to meet construction contractors with the FAMU Crestview Educational Center and discuss new business opportunities.

“We were given an overview of the whole project and what the center is expected to provide students pursuing a pharmacy degree,” said Senator Evers. “Throughout this project, we will see our friends and neighbors working toward the projected success of students who will benefit from the features of the new center.  When completed, I am hopeful the students will emerge with their degrees into a more sound and stable economy.”

Senator Evers currently represents Florida Senate District 2, which includes parts of Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Washington, Bay, and Holmes counties. Previously, Senator Evers served in the House of Representatives, representing Florida House District 1, which includes parts of Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties. He is a farmer and small businessman who was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2001, was subsequently re-elected, and elected to the Florida Senate in 2010.

Evers has put his experience in agriculture and business to good use in the Florida Legislature and is proud of his legislative accomplishments on behalf of Florida’s critical agriculture industry, economic development and job creation, and Second Amendment Rights.
