New Legislation by Senator Evers Would Notify Parents when Teen Drivers Get Traffic Tickets

Phoenix Network - November 11, 2011

(Tallahassee, Florida) - Florida State Senator Greg Evers, a Panhandle Republican, is sponsoring legislation that would allow parents to receive electronic notifications if their child under the age of 18 gets a traffic ticket or is involved in a crash.

The legislation, as proposed, would involve an opt-in program that would allow parents to pay a $5 enrollment fee to be in the notification system.

The bill will be considered in the upcoming annual legislative session that begins in January.

Evers. Chairman of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee, is sponsoring the legislation because he thinks parents should have access to that information.

The legislation would establish the state’s first “Teen Electronic Event Notification service” by either e-mail or text message.

Evers, a prominent member of the Senate leadership, has been on the forefront of significant consumer and related advocacy legislation during his ten years in the Florida Legislature.
