Another selective endorsement from Haridopolos
St. Petersburg Times Blog, January 15, 2010
Senate Senate President-Designate Mike Haridopolos, R-Indialantic, announced today he is endorsing Rep. Greg Evers' campaign for the northwest Florida Senate district now held by Sen. Durrell Peaden, who is term-limited out. Panhandle Sen. Don Gaetz concurs.
Ouch. No love for eight-year House veteran, Rep. Dave Murzin, the Republican running against Evers for the seat?
"Greg Evers is a conservative, lower tax, more personal freedom Republican who stands up for his community and shares the values and principles of the hard-working people in his district," Haridopolos in a release.
Added Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville: "Greg Evers is a no nonsense leader who will make sure that his constituency is heard and represented. As a fellow Northwest Florida Republican, I am proud to support Greg Evers and I encourage my fellow Panhandle conservatives to do the same."
Haridopolos also is supporting longtime Hillsborough County Commissioner Jim Norman over House Rep. Kevin Ambler for the Tampa Senate seat long held by Victor Crist.
Yet, there has been no glowing release for an endorsement in one of the Senate's biggest competitions: The race between Anitere Flores and David Rivera for the seat now held by Alex Villalobos, a Republican.
Rivera has the endorsement of other high-ranking senators including Mike Fasano, J.D. Alexander, and Mike Bennett. If money talks, maybe Haridopolos will side with Rivera before too long.
Flores hasn't even raised $400,000, while Rivera raised more than $1 million. For the just-ended quarter, he raised nearly $300,000 and she raised about $69,000.
