Rep. Greg Evers Stops By Chamber Breakfast
Foster Folly News, February 19, 2010
Florida Representative Greg Evers stopped by Thursday's Chamber breakfast to bring attendees up to date on happenings in Tallahassee and field some questions from the audience.
Evers, who has declared as a candidate for the Senate seat currently held by Durell Peaden, and said he was well aware that state government is not accounting for the money they spend and he wants to see accountability back in government.
He also touched on Hometown Democracy (where local folks would vote to make local decisions). Evers said he opposes it and feels in the long run it would only bog down government.
Stating he backs the Legislature putting a two year moratorium on increases on Workers Compensation insurance rates, Evers said he realizes that the major jump will hurt small businesses.
Evers said he would not raise taxes and doesn't want to cut the education budget; however, added that the state budget will "be a rough row to hoe" with a projected $3 billion deficit over last year's budget. He feels all levels of the government should work together to "use what we have, not go out and buy more".
