BRIEFS (MID-DAY EDITION)
State Senate candidate Rep. Greg Evers announced Monday that he has qualified for the ballot by petition in his bid to replace Sen. Durell Peaden, R-Crestview in Senate District 2. Evers, R-Baker, had to get the signatures of just under 3,000 voters -- one percent of the total of registered voters in the district. Evers is facing Rep. Dave Murzin, R-Pensacola, and Walter "Mike" Hill in the Republican primary for the seat. There are no Democrats in the race. District 2 includes northern Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay counties, and all of Washington and Holmes counties.
