Petitions put Evers on senate ballot

Rep. Greg Evers has qualified by petition to be placed on the ballot to run for the District 2 Florida Senate seat.
Evers, R-Baker, is the first candidate in the race to qualify by petition.
Evers received notice from the supervisors of elections in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Bay, Washington, Holmes, Okaloosa, and Walton counties that they had verified a total of 3,205 petitions and had certified the numbers to the State Division of Elections.
Under Florida law, to qualify for ballot placement for Senate District 2, a candidate must secure the signatures of at least 2,909 voters, representing at least 1 percent of the total registered voters in the district. Senate District 2 has 290,926 registered voters.
