Flyover Shows Spill Still A Couple From Mobile's Coast
WKRG-TV, May 7, 2010
MOBILE, Alabama - During the flyover I was able to see a small fleet of salvage boats, a new rig at the site and a vessel carrying a dome that could help stop the leak.
"With the equipment and the manpower they have out there and the job that it seemed they were doing and with the massive job they had to compete with they were doing a good job," says Florida State Representative Greg Evers. He was one of the people riding with a plane full of media people as we peered over the edge of a C-144 1000 feet from the ocean's surface.
"I was glad to see it wasn't nearly as bad as what I had been led to believe," says Evers. In some spots it's almost impossible to tell where the oil is. Elsewhere the squiggly line between clean and unclean is very well defined. The water takes on an almost Martian landscape feel as we soar across this now alien landscape. It's hoped the weather can help break some of the oil down. Coast Guard officials say there's still about 72 hours before the slick makes landfall along the Mississippi, Florida and Alabama coasts.
