Baker, Fla. – Representative Greg Evers (R-Baker) has announced he received the Northwest Florida Legislator of the Year Award from the Florida League of Cities in recognition of his support and commitment to the communities of Northwest Florida. The award was presented to Representative Evers by Mayor Walt Kelley of Lynn Haven on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Bay Point Marriot in Panama City. "It is an honor to be recognized in this great capacity by the Florida League of Cities," said Representative Evers. "Northwest Florida has always been my home, and it has instilled in me strong conservative principles and values. While serving as a voice in the Florida Legislature for my neighbors in Northwest Florida, I have always been committed to ensuring that these same core principles and values are reflective of our district."
"There is no one more praiseworthy to receive this award than Representative Evers," said Mayor Kurvin Qualls, who is the mayor of the town of Jay and president of the board of directors for the Florida League of Cities. "Greg has shown that he is deeply committed to the communities of Northwest Florida through his service as a State Representative and as a dedicated member of the community.
The Florida League of Cities is grateful to have legislators like Representative Evers, who strive to improve their communities and the areas that they serve through proactive legislation and who guide with strong, principled leadership."
Representative Evers currently represents Florida House District 1, which includes parts of Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties. He is a farmer and small businessman who was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2001 and was subsequently re-elected.
Representative Evers has put his experience in agriculture and business to good use in the Florida Legislature and is proud of his legislative accomplishments on behalf of Florida's critical agriculture industry, economic development, job creation and preserving and protecting Northwest Florida values including our Second Amendment rights and protections.
Most recently, Evers sponsored and passed legislation enabling Florida farmers to transport their farm equipment from field to field without the burden of additional government permits or fees; legislation creating tax incentives that enabled the Jay Oil Field to reopen, restoring numerous Northwest Florida jobs; legislation officially designating "In God We Trust" as the official motto of the State of Florida and legislation protecting the right of law-abiding citizens in Florida to have legal firearms secured in their automobiles in public parking lots.
